Our Story

Hi! We’re Bob and Julie Bolton, the owners and ranchers at Groff’s Content Farm in Frederick County. 

We believe that grass-fed and pasture-raised meats are best for the environment and for eating! 

That’s not new thinking for us - we’ve been ranching for four decades and actually have degrees in rangeland, natural resource, and wildlife management! 

For the last 15 years, we’ve only been selling our healthy and delicious meats directly to our loyal customers at Farmer’s Markets throughout DC and Baltimore. 

But now, we’re delivering the amazing beef, pork, chicken, and lamb your neighbors have been lining up for right to your doorstep!  

Our entire farm team, including our daughter Nina, nieces Arley and Stephanie, and awesome farm and market helpers (who all feel like family) are committed to one vision - bringing you better food that creates a better planet!

While Bob and I are at the age when most folks are looking to retire - with all that the pandemic revealed about food supply chain challenges, we’ve decided to lean into growing our farm and farm team. 

It will let us steward more local acres, provide opportunities for young ranchers, and feed more people healthy meats raised in ways that honor the animals and the land.  

So, we’re very pleased to introduce you to Aaron and Kelly Venable! Aaron and Kelly are first-generation farmers from Emmitsburg MD, who started with a rundown, former dairy farm in 2008 - but who’ve grown their dream into a successful multi-species grazing operation with multiple paddocks and barns. During their decade of farming, they were blessed with three children who enjoy horses, rodeo, football, and basketball, and who help on the farm when they can. 

The Venable's love the land and the animals they raise and are passionate about healing the land with the use of grazing livestock.

Starting in 2022, we’ll be sharing our acreage, barns, and paddocks to keep livestock on the move between our two farms throughout the seasons - increasing both our abilities to bring you delicious pasture-raised meats while preserving the integrity of our soils and grasses and the health of our animals! 

We can’t wait to talk more with you about our vision for the future, and kick off our meat bundles and bulk sales.
